Boat Details

Hot Mustard is a San Juan 21 sailboat located at Scotties Marina on Lower Arrow Lake.

Comes with a 5hp honda outboard and a Trailer

I was introduced to Hot Mustard during Wednesday night sailing when a number of local boats all get together and participate in some friendly racing.  While Hot Mustard was not the fastest boat, she was always competitive in PHRF (boat handicap system) and is very responsive in light winds.

San Juan 21's feature a swing keel and have a great reputation as a trailer sailor.  In fact, with a weight of only 1,400 lbs it can be towed by many medium sized cars.  The swing keel is especially handy during cruising allowing the boat to be anchored stern first right next to the shore.  You don't even get your feet wet when going to shore.

The interior is a simple open plan.  There is not toilet, no stove, nor an ice box. However, the lack of these items has not been a detriment to our cruising and if anything has reduced maintenance costs and/or headaches.

Hot Mustard has 2 sets of sails.  Old and New-ish.  We haven't used the old ones in a number of years but they are fine and work well.  The new-ish sales were purchased slightly used in 2010 and include a Mainsail and a Jib.  These are the sails that we use regularly.  In addition, the boat has and is rigged for a spinnaker.  The running rigging has been updated as required.

After purchasing the boat in 2012, we spent countless hours removing all the through deck fittings looking for water seepage into the balsa core.  Once the hardware was removed, each hole was re-drilled over sized and the balsa reamed out with a bent nail.  There was very little water damage found.  The holes were then refilled with an epoxy plug and then re drilled to fastener size.  The epoxy plug sealed the remaining balsa core and will ensure the core's integrity will remain for the long term.

This boat is in excellent condition
